School & Skype Visits
I regularly visit both elementary and junior high schools to do readings all over Alberta.
For grades K-4, I read from my three picture books and from a large variety of shorter pieces that will someday make it into collections. For grades 5 and up, I prefer to read from Kana or my fairy tales and spend a little longer discussing writing and the process of getting books out into the world.
My readings can be anywhere between twenty minutes and fifty minutes, in the school library with multiple classes or in each class individually. Either way, both kids and teachers will thoroughly enjoy themselves.
I do not charge, but ask that you give the kids access to book order forms. If anyone wants a book, I’ll be happy to drop it off a week or so later.
Virtual Author Visits (using Skype)
I offer two types of Skype visits:
- No Charge – Meet the Author/ Q&A – 10 to 15 minutes
- In-Depth Visits – up to an hour – email me for fee
I am happy to discuss my books, the process of writing, or any other topic to do with children’s and young adult literature with classrooms, book clubs and libraries.

“The students and staff at Montrose School truly enjoyed our visit from Mr. McRae. Gordon geared his presentations well, to fit the age and grades of our students. He was funny, engaging and inspiring, in that he is a local writer who was born and raised right here in Edmonton. We recommend that, if given the opportunity, invite Gordon into your school to hear him speak about, and read his books. He is simply delightful!”
-Jennifer Sobczu, Assistant Principal, Montrose School, Edmonton
“Both teachers and students delightfully giggled through the adventures of The Tooth and The Cannibal Anaconda. Who knew that rhyming could be so much fun! Our school was bubbling with laughter after our visit from Mr. McRae.”
– Corrinne Kosik, Curriculum Coordinator, Bessie Nichols School, Edmonton
“Gordon McRae visited Lendrum last school year. Our students are still speaking of his visit! At our first Parent Council meeting in September, members asked if we were able to have him back again this year! A true testament to the Lendrum visit. We would welcome him back, indeed!”
– Jason Ludwar, Principal/Directeur, École Lendrum School, Edmonton
